A downloadable game for Windows

An atmospheric journey into the dark underground with themes of isolation and mental illness, and a disturbing twist. For fans of narrative-rich and suspenseful horror games like Amnesia or SCP: Containment Breach.

It's a game about walking into a trap.

Based on a game originally made in 2 days as a personal challenge. When I made the original DownCave about a year ago, it was inspired by some very dark personal feelings I'd been dealing with for a long time. Unfortunately, the original release was plagued by bugs due to a lack of sufficient playtesting. With the release of Godot 4, I decided to make a visually remastered version of the game to teach myself some of the new engine features.

The game is about an hour long. Please be careful as you only have one life and there are no checkpoints. You are meant to play through the game in one sitting. It is recommended you play in a dark room with headphones on and the volume turned up.

CONTENT WARNING:

Maybe don't play this if you have a very strong reaction to claustrophobia, spiders, darkness, or caves in general. Please be careful if you're sensitive to light because you will be turning a flashlight on and off frequently. However there aren't any points where you are exposed to flashing lights outside of your control.

INSTRUCTIONS:

WASD + Mouse to move.

CTRL to crouch.

E to interact.

F for flashlight.

ESC to exit the game.

SPACEBAR to struggle.

You can survive any fall where you can see the bottom with your flashlight.

Really enjoyed the playthrough, was not expecting the funny ending lol, and may have forgotten to press the interact key. But all in all very suspenseful game, surprised you resisted the urge to add bug crawling sounds everywhere .

Aw man the ending was broken, there was supposed to be a little cutscene at the end when the screen was all black.
I fixed it now, but I wish I'd caught the issue before release.
